The Lyric Theater in Birmingham, Alabama, opened in 1914 as a vaudeville theatre and is now the subject of a campaign to save it before it’s gone forever. It’s right across the street from the historic Alabama Theatre, which was fortunately saved from ruin and is now in operation again. The Lyric deserves the same chance. I wonder if it’ll get it. Too much of our heritage crumbles to dust while we stand there watching. At least someone’s giving a go of saving it. See the B-Metro magazine which recently published a photo of the Lyric, taken by a good friend of mine named Hampton Taylor.
