I now have a page on Facebook. I have a profile, of course, but a page is different. In order to join a page you don’t have to send a Friend Request, all you have to do is click the Become a Fan button. I know it seems presumptuous as hell, and probably a little pretentious too (at least it does in my mind), but my intentions here aren’t anchored on the “Get More Fans” model. I actually have a plan for this thing, something useful that I hope might be fun, too. Not that I’d mind having an army of doting Internet fangirls, mind. No, I would not turn anyone away. I’m only saying you don’t have to be a fan to join my “Fan Page.”
What I’d like to do is have a core group of readers here who might comment on things I write and post up there. It’s set up so only people who click the Fan button can read what’s inside. So, whether you’re a fan or not, if you’d just like to read a little slipstream fiction every now and then and effectively throw balls at the writer in the dunking booth by critiquing his stories, head on over and click on that little fan button. In that sense it’s not really a “Fan” modeled page at all. That button should say “Click here to bludgeon mercilessly.”
My head is in the guillotine, all you have to do is push the button.
