My kids had a checkup last week (Friday) and while at the pediatrician’s office I came by this magazine, which, frankly, scared the ever-loving crap out of me. You tell me, is this horrific or am I just weird? Creepy old guy, dressed in velvet (yes, velvet)…you know, I don’t think it would be as bad as it is if they hadn’t parted his hair in the middle like that. And the unsuspecting little baby, sitting there on the floor with her present, distracted by some glamour off to her right. If I saw this scene unfold right in front of me, I believe I’d be hard-pressed not to snatch that little baby from (what I would presume to be) his soon-to-be clutching mandibles. And yes, I know he’s supposed to be some kind of off-duty, out-of-uniform Santa Clause, but good God, was Santa ever THAT creepy?
Yes, I suppose he was. *shiver* But this just takes it to whole new levels. I mean, it’s not as obvious as the evil Easter Bunny, but it’s creepy just the same. Here’s another shot from inside the magazine, which, I’m sure is a great magazine, with all kinds of great tips, and I’m also confident that the photographer is a wonderful photographer of children. But this is edging closer and closer into creepy clown territory. Does this look like a child who’s happy to be sitting on Santa’s knee? Or is her expression that of a little girl who’s afraid the monster holding her is about to open up its mouth and pop her in like a jelly bean?

That’s exactly the look. You know, Santas (or should that be Santii) are discouraged from “Ho ho hoing” because it scares the kids. I don’t think for a child that young Santa is anything but scary in the flesh, good in concept and far away, but in person, yikes!
Dear Matt,
Thanks for the plug for our magazine. We thought it was one of our best covers ever.
However, I’m sorry we scared you so badly.

p.s. If you think that’s scary, keep in mind these images are copyrighted by both the magazine and the photographer.
Hey, I appreciate the plug for our magazine! I just hope our photographer feels the same way about her copyrighted photographs.

Carol,
Thanks, glad you stopped by and no problem with the plug, it’s all in (what I hope came off as) good-natured humor. If you or the photographer want me to remove the pics, no problem, just let me know. I did look at the photographer’s website and her work is sensational. I’ll leave the link up regardless.
Cheers,
Matt
