One more last day of freedom Top 10 Movie Spaceships
Dec 22

Watched Mission Impossible 3 last night and had an interesting thought: The producers (Namely: Tom Cruise) procured what I thought was an interesting actress to play the role of Ethan’s wife. She looks A lot like Katie Holmes. So it occurred to me: Why not just cast Katie in the role if that’s the look you’re going for? But the answer was given only a moment later, as Ethan and wife strolled arm in arm and she was roughly his height if a bit shorter. Katie Holmes is easily six inches taller than Cruise. They would have had to have given him lifts to get him up to eye level with her (as I’m sure the diminutive mega-star has had to have done in the past anyway). –OR– she might have been pregnant while they were filming. But there are a couple of scenes–closeups–where Cruise’s screen wife bears a striking resemblance to his Earth wife (if six inches shorter). Coincidence? I think not!

As for the film, I rate it 2.8 out of 5 stars. It’s definitely better than MI2; on par with the first MI.

And, though I am by no means a celebrity hound, I am convinced that the best Mr. Cruise has to offer is what we see of him onscreen. His “real-life” personality, if he can be said to actually have anything resembling a real-life personality, must be about as structured and rigidly ordered as a movie set. What you see with Tom is what you get, so long as what you see is on the movie screen. I don’t believe he knows how to act in real life. Just my opinion.
